valerie & jimmy // the metropolitan building // long island city, new york

From the bride:

Jimmy is a Texas boy who proposed to me, the quintessential NYC girl on July 19, 2014 at The Top of the Rock in Manhattan, NY. It was a quiet summer morning when Jimmy gave me the biggest surprise of my life in the city we both now call our home. Jimmy works as a photographer on the side, and had initially asked me to help out on a shoot. Little did I know, we would be the stars of this so called shoot! His good friend hid out and snapped mementos of the big moment for us to cherish for eternity. From then on, we spent the next 2 years planning our wedding, while enjoying every second of engaged bliss.
Jimmy and I both love to create. Jimmy works in the architecture field, and I am a craft loving girl working in the Finance world. Our wedding incorporated elements of the both of us! When we were planning our wedding, we prioritized what was important to us: that our wedding would reflect facets of us, that our beyond amazing friends and family felt the love we had for them through delicious food and keep-’em-on-the-dance-floor tunes, and that we would celebrate the beginning of our new lives together with a big party!
Our unique venue, the Metropolitan Building in Long Island City, served as the perfect vintage yet romantic background for our union. The venue was a re-purposed electrical parts factory that exemplified the exact look and feel that Jimmy and I were looking for. With exposed brick and a skylight, we fell in love the moment we stepped inside. We had a peach and navy blue color palette for that perfect bridge between a summer and fall wedding, and served rib-sticking barbecue to pay homage to Jimmy’s roots and to give our NYC guests a taste of the South. We were a DIY heavy wedding and this true labor of love could not have been completed without the help of our family, bridal party, and house party. We spent the entire day prior to the wedding setting up most of the decor but did not have a chance to see the completed set-up until a few hours prior to the ceremony. We were blown away with how everything came together; our vision had truly come to life! We had one of the greatest days of our lives and it was the perfect start to our new beginning.
